The Importance of the Mobile Experience in E-Commerce

E-commerce has grown massively in recent years, but it may not be the next real frontier for shopping, as mobile commerce continues to grow in popularity.

Mobile commerce has the potential to become, with 55% of global traffic share, a major shopping channel and to change consumers' shopping habits. They are more dependent on digital devices than ever before. Figures show that the mobile phone is becoming the preferred method of online shopping for consumers. Indeed, the smartphone has become the consumer's personal shopper, accompanying them throughout their online and offline shopping journey.

Shopping via smartphone or tablet is becoming so convenient and hassle-free that many e-commerce companies have reported that more than 50% of their sales come from mobile devices and have adapted their business models to be as user-friendly as possible.

Apps run faster than browsers because they already contain more data, which means less processing for servers and therefore a better experience for users.

Indeed, page load speed has always been a ranking factor and an important dimension for websites, and it is even more so when it comes to mobile commerce. However, Google has always only considered desktop versions of websites with the launch of the "Mobile-First Index", which is Google's crawling and indexing system that is now performed by a robot on the mobile version and not the desktop.

This means that websites or storefronts that are optimized for mobile will have an organic preference in the ranking algorithm.

Web usage on mobile devices is now higher than ever, and desktop users are increasingly in the minority. According to Statista, in the first quarter of 2020, mobile devices accounted for 56% of visits to organic search engines.

The Campaign Monitor study found that 68% of email campaigns are now opened on a mobile device. This makes mobile SEO and online marketing essential for any business with an online presence.

The e-commerce market has never been as large as it is today. The popularity of online shopping continues to grow. At the same time, the number of brands looking to meet this demand is also growing. So a solid and effective mobile marketing strategy is no longer optional. It is a necessity.
